Overview

There are two ways to save and upload your Chrome bookmarks to a new computer or computer profile. Using the first one explained you will need a Google account. Syncing Chrome to your Google account saves your bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings securely across all devices. The second solution allows you to save your bookmarks to a file and upload them to Chrome using the file.

Syncing Chrome to Your Google Account

  1. Open Chrome and select the user icon located in the top right corner.

  2. Select "Turn on sync."

  3. Enter your gmail address and select "Next." If you don't have a gmail account you will need to create one.

  4. Enter your password and select "Next."

  5. Select "Yes, I'm in."

Chrome will now sync your bookmarks to your Google account. When you log into Chrome on another computer or profile Chrome will import all of your settings.

Exporting Your Bookmarks to an HTML File

  1. Open Chrome and select the menu that looks like 3 vertical dots located in the top right corner. Then select "Bookmarks." Then select "Bookmarks manager."

  2. Select the menu that looks like 3 vertical dots located on the top right of Chrome just below the other menu. The select "Export bookmarks."

  3. Name the file and select "Save." Remember the location where the file is saved or save it directly to a flash drive.

If you did not save the file directly to a flash drive remember to locate the file in file explorer and save the file to an external drive so you can access it to load your settings into Chrome.

Import Your Bookmarks into Chrome Using the HTML File

  1. Open Chrome and select the menu that looks like 3 vertical dots located in the top right corner. Then select "Settings."

  2. Select "Import bookmarks and settings."

  3. In the drop down menu select "Bookmarks HTML File" and select "Import."

  4. Locate the file on your flash drive or other external drive and select "Open."

  5. Select "Done."

Your bookmarks should now be available in Chrome.
