The Repository is designed to hold specific information.  Information that is appropriate to be stored in the Repository is metadata, application control data, documentation, business requirements, and enterprise business data.  It is not appropriate to store information pertaining to business operations, such as student data, employee data, financial data, etc.

Metadata

Metadata is information about data that is used to operate the enterprise, in this case, USF.  Metadata is also information about the technical objects and processes and the business processes used to operate a business. Metadata tells us about the characteristics, sources, access, and location of the data. 

This information can be categorized into four metadata classifications:

  • Definitional Metadata
  • Quality Metadata
  • Navigational Metadata
  • Lineage Metadata

    Enterprise Business Dataanchor

    Enterprise Business DataEnterprise Business DataEnterprise business data is information used for business operations.  This type of information is located in enterprise business systems, such as, OASIS, FAST, GEMS, and the Data Warehouse. 

    However, there are two types, and only two types, of enterprise business data that are permitted to be in the repository:

    • Public information
    • Validation data (e.g. descriptions for code values)
