The M.H.A./M.P.H. dual degree provides a unique opportunity for students who are interested in both health administration and health policy to pursue both interests, recognizing that the health care marketplace has professional opportunities that require both skill sets.

Students wanting to obtain this dual degree may do so by following the instructions below.

1. Complete SOPHAS application for the MHA (Masters of Health Administration) program.

      Required Documentation for SOPHAS (all items are required regardless of GPA or GRE scores):

  • Transcripts
  • GRE taken within five years preceding application or equivalent scores (see Admissions Tests Information page for more information);
  • Minimum of two letters of recommendation;
  • Statement of purpose and objectives;
  • Resume or curriculum vitae;
  • International applicants from non-English-speaking countries must provide a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 79-80 (internet based test), 213 (computer-based test) or 550 (written test), taken within 2 years of the desired term of entry.

2. An email confirming your SOPHAS application will be sent with a link to complete the USF application and pay the Processing Fee of $30. (no documents need to be sent to USF, items must be sent to SOPHAS only).

3. Once admitted to the MHA program, the student can apply to add the second program after the first semester by completing the USF Application for Dual Graduate Degree form.

*Admission to the dual MHA/MPH program is not automatic, you must complete a dual degree application and get accepted to the second program in order to be considered a dual degree student.


Prerequisites

The admission committee reviews and considers all required application documentation (listed above). In addition to meeting the application requirements for the M.H.A. and M.P.H. degrees, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate majors are diverse and include: Life sciences, social sciences, business, or health professions.
  • Prerequisite undergraduate courses: Microeconomics or equivalent (prerequisite must be completed prior to enrolling in PHC 6430 Health Economics I) and Accounting (prerequisite must be completed prior to enrolling in PHC 6160 Health Care Financial Management). 
  • Work experience:  Preferred, but not required.
  • Basic computer competency is expected (M.P.H.).
  • Students in all online public health courses are expected to meet certain technology requirements in order to successfully participate in their courses. It is the student's responsibility to ensure all requirements are met prior to the start of the semester.   • Meeting of these criteria shall not be the only basis for admission.
