Important Catalog Information for Summer 2020 Matriculants

Due to the planned consolidation during the summer of 2020, of the University of South Florida, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, into a single university with a fully aligned and integrated curriculum and a single set of academic policies and procedures, any undergraduate or graduate student who matriculates at one of the three USF institutions on or after May 18, 2020, will adhere to the curricula, policies, and procedures described in the 2020-21 USF undergraduate or graduate catalog, respectively.

In addition to the overall Master of Public Health degree competencies, Maternal & Child Health graduates will be able to:

  1. Identify the scientific underpinnings and strength of evidence from the literature for addressing MCH issues including: morbidity and mortality; individual, family, social and community factors; and health system characteristics;
  2. Describe the scope and impact of MCH problems for children, women and families;
  3. Use basic quantitative and qualitative research methods to prepare data for problem identification, program planning and evaluation, and policy analysis;
  4. Apply organizational theory to public health, program planning, management and evaluation;
  5. Describe MCH history, policy development, major programs, laws, regulations, advocacy movements and current legislative mandates;
  6. Summarize data on a policy, write policy statements, and translate policies into organization;
  7. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and
  8. Utilize cultural competence and social justice concepts, community partnership development, and ethical standards in practice.

  1. During 2nd semester meet with advisor and begin planning field experience. See http://health.usf.edu/publichealth/academicaffairs/fe/. May be met through the Peace Corps Master’s International option.
  2. Any grade below a C (C- to F) is required to be retaken.  The grade will be included in the student's GPA.
  3. The College Reserves All Rights to Repeal And/or Modify.
  4. Please print the check sheet and take it with you to your advising appointments each semester.
  5. Supervised Field Experience: Students with little or no professional experience: 6 hours minimum. Students with relevant professional experience: 3 hours minimum.  An expectation of 2-3 years of experience in an MCH related clinical background or agency constitutes the term “previous professional experience” worthy of lesser field experience.
