Overview
The Repository is designed to hold specific information. Information that is appropriate to be stored in the Repository is metadata, application control data, documentation, business requirements, and enterprise business data. It is not appropriate to store information pertaining to business operations, such as student data, employee data, financial data, etc.
Appropriate Repository Information
Metadata
Metadata
is information about data that is used to operate the enterprise, in this case, USF. Metadata is also information about the technical objects and processes and the business processes used to operate a business. Metadata tells us about the characteristics, sources, access, and location of the data.
This information can be categorized into four metadata classifications:
- Definitional Metadata
- Quality Metadata
- Navigational Metadata
- Lineage

Application Control Data
Application control data is data used to support processes and applications. The types of control data permitted are:
- Messages (e.g. status messages)
- Roles and privileges
- Authentication information
- Navigational and menu information
- Stylistic display information
- Application tracking and usage information
- Application executable code
Documentation
Documentation that may or may not be considered metadata, but that is essential to business operations may be stored in the repository. This documentation should promote understanding of:
- Applications
- Reports
- Business systems
- Data Marts
Enterprise Business Data
