Due to the planned consolidation during the summer of 2020, of the University of South Florida, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, into a single university with a fully aligned and integrated curriculum and a single set of academic policies and procedures, any undergraduate or graduate student who matriculates at one of the three USF institutions on or after May 18, 2020, will adhere to the curricula, policies, and procedures described in the 2020-21 USF undergraduate or graduate catalog, respectively.

Concentration: Industrial Hygiene (Code: PIH)
Delivery: Traditional

Info

Starting with the 2017/18 catalog year this concentration was moved to "Occupational Exposure Science".

The field of industrial hygiene plays an important role in the protection of worker health through workplace assessment and interventions. Training in industrial hygiene is designed to build on the basic skills of those with a background in science and engineering so that they will be able to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the work place. The development of research skills is also a critical component of the concentration. The curriculum includes the public health core courses, and program courses relating to occupational diseases, exposure assessment, control measures, and assessment of risk. Graduates are expected to contribute to worker health through their ability to gather data, form opinions, recommend solutions and interact with management, employees, and the community in implementing solutions. Students will have the opportunity to expand their technical base through electives in the areas of environmental health, industrial safety, risk management, and ergonomics. It is expected that the students will pursue professional certification (CIH).

Accreditation: Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of College and Schools. The College is fully accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health. This Industrial Hygiene concentration in the MSPH degree practices a Continuous Improvement Program in accordance with our NIOSH Sunshine ERC Grant requirements, the College CEPH accreditation, and the University SACS accreditation.
