Can I change my NetID?

Your NetID can be changed only under the specific circumstances listed below. Changing a NetID (e.g., 'jdoe' to 'jsmith') can disrupt services or applications that use it as the account name. Typically, when a NetID is changed, a new one is created for the same identity while the old one is retained.

• Your legal name has been changed. Your NetID can be changed only after you have submitted your name change request to Human Resources (if you're an employee) or the University Registrar (if you're a student) and they have processed your request.

• Extraordinary circumstances include personal safety issues, as well as security or privacy concerns.
  

What do I need to do to change my NetID?

Requests for changes to one's NetID are to be submitted to help@usf.edu including supporting evidence of one of the following:

• For students, updated name in OASIS; for employees, updated name with Human Resources.
• Extraordinary circumstance
• Acceptance of responsibility for identifying and coordinating any account changes in USF services or applications that use the NetID, such as email and parking. 

What happens if I ask for my old NetID to be removed?

If specifically requested, the old NetID can be removed; however, the person risks:

• Orphaning data (under the old NetID) in services that cannot rename accounts, e.g., data in BOX.
• Orphaning transactions (started under the old NetID), especially in workflow services, e.g. PeopleAdmin / Careers@USF, Canvas.
