PowerBI initial report created without a shared datasetcreation:

  • Create PowerBI Report in Power BI Desktop.
    • If data is unavailable in PROD (dwprod), changes/addition to ETL for PROD, or client needs/wants test data, select appropriate source in data source settings.
  • Save the report to box folder IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\Dev (*Note: Change project name to name of your project (e.g. Travel,  etc.))
  • Publish report to Dev workspace (IT BIA Power BI Dev GRP).
  • Peer, PO, and client review for the report.
  • Once client review is complete, publish the report to prod workspace (As mentioned above, if the data source is not prod, change the data source to prod).
  • Save the report in the appropriate IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\PROD (See above *note) folder and publish to the appropriate workspace (either IT BIA Power BI Dev PROD or if the project has its own workspace, publish the report to the project workspace).

PowerBI report revision:

  • Open current report to revise in PowerBI Desktop from IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\PROD and make needed changes.

Proposed BETA option for PowerBI initial report creation:

  • Open current report to revise in PowerBI Desktop from IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\PROD and make needed changes.
  • Save the report to box folder IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\Dev (*Note: Change project name to name of your project (e.g. Travel,  etc.))
  • Publish report to Dev workspace (IT BIA Power BI Dev GRP) for peer and PO review.
  • After client review of the report, push to IT BIA Power BI Dev BETA.
  • After one week or client approval, publish the report to prod , then save workspace (and delete report version in BETA workspace).
  • Save the report in the appropriate IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\PROD (See above *note) folder and publish to the appropriate workspace (either IT BIA Power BI Dev PROD or if the project has its own workspace, publish the report to the project workspace) and delete version from BETA workspace.

Proposed BETA option for PowerBI report revision:

  • Check BETA workspace if a previously created version has been changed, but not approved by client.  If report exists in workspace, determine if the report is current.
  • If no report exists in BETA, open current report to revise in PowerBI Desktop from IT-BIA\Projects\PowerBI\Projectname\PROD and make needed changes.
  • After one week or client approval, publish the report to prod workspace.
