Kay Perrin, PhD, MPH, CPH

Since 1990, Kay M. Perrin, PhD, MPH has held faculty appointments at the University of South Florida, College of Public Health in the Department of Community and Family Health. Prior to obtaining her PhD, she worked as a registered nurse in a variety of public health clinics and hospital settings for over 15 years. Currently, Dr. Perrin is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies. She oversees all aspects of the newly approved undergraduate degree: Bachelor's of Science in Public Health.

Dr. Perrin teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses. Her research focuses on adolescent health with a special interest in teen pregnancy. Lastly, she serves on several community boards in the Tampa Bay Area.

Melanie earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Education in 2014 from USF.  She started working at USF as a graduate assistant in the College of Education and the Academic Success Center.  After graduating, she became the Assistant Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment in the Office of Decision Support.  She joined the College of Public Health team in 2017, where she is responsible for the development of curriculum, course peer review process, assessments, and is a part of the accreditation team.  When she is not working, she enjoys attending USF football (Go Bulls!) and spending time with her family.

Katherine is originally from New Jersey and holds a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Southeastern University. Katherine moved to Lakeland, FL in 2009 to  attend Southeastern University, where she earned a Bachelors degree and Masters. While obtaining her Masters, she worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Advancement Department at SEU.

In addition, she has worked at Florida Southern College as the Administrative Assistant to the ROTC program and at Geico as a Customer service representative. Katherine recently moved to Brandon, Fl. In her spare time, Katherine loves working out, shopping and reading. Also, Katherine likes go out to different adventures and traveling with her family and friends.

Kamala holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration and Master’s in Business Administration, worked as the Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Schiller International University, and as the Director of International Recruitment and Admissions at Ball State University. Kamala has traveled in China, India, Brazil, Turkey, the Middle East and Europe, and loves to experience and learn about new cultures, as well as read and exercise in her spare time.

Patricia came over to the College of Public Health from the Office of the Registrar with 4 ½ years of experience in higher education. While employed at the Office of the Registrar, she worked as an Enrollment Management Assistant for Client Services and as an Enrollment Management Specialist for Graduation and Records Management. Patricia is also a student here at the University of South Florida seeking a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology. In her free time Patricia enjoy working-out, cooking, and hanging out with family and friends.

Lakiecher is the Scheduling and Online Programs Administrator for the College of Public Health. She has over 10 years of experience working in higher education. Lakiecher manages the Reduced Rate Program (RRP), formally known as Self-funded. She completed her undergraduate degree at Kentucky State University and is currently working on a Masters in Educational Leadership. Lakiecher enjoys spending time with her daughter, family and friends.

Carletta Hagins-Hughes is new to the College of Public Health, but not new to the University of South Florida. Carletta has over 9 years of experience through USF Registrar Office in records and registration, training, PDIM, senior citizen registration and change of programs. Carletta is currently working on her degree in Mass Communication. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering with her church, traveling, culture events, music, reading and especially spending time with her family. Carletta is eager to learn and always looking for new challenges.

David came to the College of Public Health in 1996 and has worked as a network administrator, data manager, researcher and admissions administrator. He earned a Master's of Science in Public Health in 2007 and has co-authored articles on topics such as assessing children's physical activity, parental influences on child behavior, and the internet's association with social networking. He now works in Academic and Student Affairs for COPH performing data management, assessment and reporting for programs and accreditation, and maintaining curriculum information for the College. David also enjoys running, and volunteer work at the Tampa Humane Society.

Tara first joined Academic and Student affairs in August of 2014. Tara entered the nonprofit realm in 2003 when she started 4 The Future. At the time she was an undergraduate at USF studying for her BSW. Later she would continue her education and receive an MBA.

Somer has worked at the College of Public Health for nearly 15 years including positions in research, undergraduate teaching, and academic administration. She is also an alumna of the College having earned her MPH in Public Health Education. Currently Somer works with the Graduate Advising team, the Public Health Practice Program and the Doctorate of Public Health Program within the Office of Academic and Student Affairs.  She spends her free time enjoying her family, friends, travel, and food.

Jesse Casanova, MS
Field Experience and International Programs Administrator

Jesse Casanova graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., in 2004. He joined the Peace Corps and served in Togo, West Africa, from 2006-08 as a natural resource management volunteer. He then worked as an English instructor in South Korea from 2008-09.

Upon completing his service in South Korea, he attended Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao, Spain, where he earned an MsC in international humanitarian action in the Network on Humanitarian Assistance in 2011. He then worked in Cameroon as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer and in malaria control at the national level with the Ministry of Health, the Global Fund, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Embassy. He finished that 13-month assignment in 2013, when he accepted his current USF position as director of International Programs in the College of Public Health.

In 2016, Kelley joined the College of Public Health after working at USF in the Development Office at the College of Education and in the Ombuds Office.  She obtained a Masters of Education from USF in College Student Affairs. As a life-long learner, Kelley looks forward to helping students discover their passions while working to meet their educational goals. In her spare time, she enjoys attending football games, cooking, and traveling with her family.

Laura was an academic advisor for the University of Wisconsin Colleges for 10 years prior to moving to St. Petersburg in 2016. She enjoys supporting students from diverse backgrounds, helping each of them achieve their personal goals. She enjoys theater, travel, meditation and time with family and friends.

Shea is an administrative assistant to the Graduate Advisors for the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida (USF). She has worked as a student assistant for USF’s Housing and Residential Education department while earning her Bachelor of Science degree from USF in 2016. Pam received her Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science from the University of Maine and spent 19 years at Syracuse University, most recently as Assistant Director of Academic Advising.  She and her husband moved to the Tampa area Summer 2015. In her free time she enjoys gardening, spending time with family and friends, and taking in all that Florida sunshine!

Jessica is originally from the Western New York area where she completed her undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo.  She joined the Department of Global Health in December of 2010 just prior to completing her Masters in Business Administration from the USF Muma College of Business.  Jessica enjoys interacting with Global Health students, applicants or anyone interested in a degree, minor, graduate certificate or classes in the department.  In her free time, she enjoys yoga, crafting of any kind and spending time with her husband and cats.
