Tuition and Fees

Tuition for the USF MCOM Physician Assistant Program is a flat annual rate regardless of the actual hours a student is enrolled. Total costs for each class in 2017-2019 class are itemized below. The dates of attendance may change and the cost may vary slightly for the each year of aid needed. The amount of tuition and fees are subject to change from year to year as established by the Florida State legislature and the USF Board of Trustees. Specific fee information can be obtained by contacting the Physician Assistant Program.  Any tuition increase will be reported on the website and current students will be notified via email.

The Florida State Legislature established procedures for charging tuition and fees to professional students attending Florida State schools on a flat yearly rate basis, regardless of length of time enrolled. Students are billed at the beginning of each academic year by the Morsani College of Medicine's Registrar's Office.

Students who pay tuition after the due date will be assessed a late fee of $100 unless they have made proper arrangements for a late payment. Applications for a "Waiver of Late Fee" may be obtained from the Registrar's Office or the Office of Financial Aid and must be filed prior to the payment deadline.

Students pay tuition directly to the USF Health Payment Center.  Checks must be made payable to: USF Morsani College of Medicine. Checks must be mailed to: USF Health Payment Center, P.O. Box 864300, Orlando, FL, 32886-4300. You must include the four-digit zip code extension in the address, and your "U" number must be on the check. If you do not include your "U" number it is likely that your tuition payment will not be applied to your account and will cause you to incur late fees.

Refunds

Students who withdraw, transfer, take a Leave of Absence exceeding 120 days, or who are dismissed from the program before completion of 80% of the academic year may be granted a prorated refund of tuition paid. Refunds will not be given to students who are enrolled for more than 80% of the academic year. A written request for a refund of tuition must be submitted to the Morsani College of Medicine Registrar’s office to initiate the refund.

For students who receive financial aid, a share of the institutional refund will be returned to the financial aid programs from which the student received assistance.

Room and Board

The costs included in this category of the budget are estimates of expenses that the average student may incur during each year of enrollment in the Physician Assistant Program. While actual expenses will vary among students, the estimated total cost of living will allow for a low to moderate standard of living. The calculation for room expenses is one-half the average rental rate of a two-bedroom apartment in the area. Single students are expected to share living facilities to help reduce expenses. An allowance is made for the following items:

• rent for a two bedroom apartment
• utilities
• furniture rental
• phone
• miscellaneous (renters insurance, garbage pickup, etc.)
• food

Cost of Attendance

The Higher Education Amendments of 1965 require schools to construct budgets for students that reflect costs the student can expect to incur during his/her enrollment. The Amendments mandate that these budgets reflect the costs for the student only and do not permit inclusion of expenses incurred by other family members.

A note to students with dependents: As explained in the section on "Determining Eligibility" the FAFSA will subtract a Standard Maintenance Allowance (SMA) from you and/or your spouse's income to accommodate for maintenance costs for all members of your family (except the student since the student's maintenance costs are included in the "Cost of Attendance") before calculating the expected family contribution. The only costs not included in the SMA are costs for "Dependent Care", such as day care expenses for children, or costs for elderly or disabled dependent care so that you might attend school. Therefore, these "Dependent Care" costs can be added to the student's cost of attendance, upon submission of actual receipts to the Financial Aid Office with the applications for financial aid. Additionally, cases may occur where the student/spouse income is insufficient to fully cover the SMA for family members, resulting in a negative amount for the expected family contribution. In this case, the amount of the deficit can be added to the student's Cost of Attendance.

Estimated costs for attending the USF Morsani College of Medicine Physician Assistant Program are the sum of the tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, commuting expenses and an allowance for personal expenses. Cost of Attendance only covers the months that a student is enrolled in classes. Enrollment is consecutive 24 months. The aid received may need to be budgeted to last for a longer period if program needs to be extended due to remediation. These budgets are established by the Physician Assistant Program faculty, Institutional support faculty and the Office of Financial Aid. The numbers reflect approximate funds needed to provide for a low to moderate standard of living in the Tampa Bay area. Students are expected to budget themselves and live in a fiscally responsible manner.

Tuition for all students is payable within the academic year. All figures are subject to change.

A word about tuition late fee waivers: The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine will approve a waiver of the Late Payment Fee if a student is unable to make payment on time due to circumstances determined by the University to be exceptional and beyond the control of the student. Late Fee waivers will not be approved if the disbursement delay is due to late submission of financial aid requirements by the student.
