CMS Cheat Sheet

How to do the following

Login to CMS

  1. Click on the "copyright" sign at the bottom of the USF web page and enter your single sign-on credentials.  This will bring up the CMS tool.


Editing pages

  1. You can navigate to the page you would like to edit and then login or once you are in CMS, you can navigate around the folders shown in the upper left corner.
  2. Once you are on the correct page, click on the light bulb to check out the page for editing.
  3. Click on the "Edit" button in order to edit the page contents.
  4. The index page is the homepage for each section in the sidenav and subnav.
  5. Note: In order to edit the website home page, you must navigate to the page and check it out before it allows you to edit.


Editing the home page of your website

  1. Navigate to the homepage and check the page out (light bulb).
  2. The props.pcf contains the Section Title, the Banner Title and top menu links
  3. The "sidenav" does not show on the homepage, but it has the same "sidenav links as all other pages.
  4. Home page Index contains the homepage contents.  It must be checked out to edit.
  5. Edit properties to update tab-title, call to action items and names of widgets at the bottom of the page.
  6. Widgets at the bottom of the page can be found under the main page for all of USF, under widgets/ods.  This will have all widgets for test and prod.
  7. The homepage also contains folders for other pages on website.


Saving Pages

  1. Once you have made all of the edits to the page, click on the "floppy disk icon/save button" in order to save.
  2. Click on the light bulb to check it in (it should not be yellow if it is checked in).


Publishing Pages

  1. Once you are ready to publish a page, it is recommended to publish in a test environment.
  2. Click on the green Publish button.
  3. When the Publish window pops up, select the target environment (production or test).
  4. It is recommended that you click "Run All" to run checks on spelling, broken links and disability access issues.  Once these are all fixed, you can publish to the appropriate web page.


Sidenav and Subnav

  1. The sidenav is the left side navigation and should display the same as the subnav or top menu bar.
  2. The subnav is the top menu bar and should match the sidenav, this can be accessed through the properties page.
  3. The sidenav and the subnave should point to the same places.
  4. You can have indented sidenav menu indented by editing the sidenav, selecting the menu item, hit <RETURN> and then <TAB> on the following line to cause the next item to indent.  You can only indent one layer.

Creating Pages

  1. To create a new page click on the "pages" button on the corresponding folder and then click "+new".  This will create a top-level or header page for this section of your website.
  2. Create the page header first then create pages underneath.


Images and Documents


See what you have checked out

  1. When you are ready to log out, please click on "Dashboard-Overview" to ensure all the pages you had checked out are checked back in.
