Degree Productivity Navigation Guide

New for 2023, the degree productivity college reports are no longer provided as Excel spreadsheets but instead are available through Power BI. The purpose of this navigation guide is to help the user navigate through the dashboard.

The Degree Productivity dashboard may be accessed by visiting the ODS-Academic Planning and Operational Reporting website using the following URL: https://academicplanning.usf.edu/degree-productivity.

Within this Power BI “app”, you will select the year for which you want to view the degree productivity data. Please note: the filters are not synced between the different reports, so applying a filter for a particular filter in the 2022 report will not automatically transfer over to the 2023 report.

Following is a screenshot of the Degree Productivity landing page:

The dashboards provide a left navigation that include the following tabs:

  • Landing Page: This is the homepage of the Degree Productivity dashboard where the user may select college-specific data.

  • Degrees: The degrees page provides the degree-level data (CIP code) that may be filtered by college. The last column in the report--“Last Review Term”--is new to the 2023 report and contains the academic year in which the last academic program review was completed.

  • Majors and Campuses: This page provides major and campus-specific information by CIP code, level, and campus. Majors were recently terminated will continue to appear until no students graduate from those programs.

  • Concentrations: This page provides data for each concentration by CIP code, level, and campus. For those majors where a concentration is optional, the listing labeled “No Concentration” details those students who did not declare a concentration. Concentrations that were recently terminated will continue to appear until no students graduate from those programs.

  • Pre-Majors: This page is new for 2023 and includes the enrollment counts for all pre-major codes.

  • Major Reselection: This page is new for 2023 and includes the enrollment counts for those students who are coded in the Reselection (RSL) major code.

  • Exploratory: This page is new for 2023 and includes the enrollment counts for students in one of the five Exploratory Curriculum majors.

  • GR and UG Certificates: These pages provide award and/or enrollment data for certificates.

Filtering and Sorting

The dashboard will display the data for the college selected on the landing page, but any college can be selected on the filter bar to the right of the dashboard. Unselecting the selected college will show degree programs for all colleges.

Within the Degrees tab, the default sort is by CIP code and then level. Although you may sort by any of the headers listed, if the sort order is changed, the previous sort settings will be lost. To change the current sort, click on the column header for which you want to sort. To sort by multiple columns, hold the “Shift” key as you select subsequent columns.

Scrolling

The Awarded and Enrollments columns and scroll bars (see red boxes below) on the Majors and Campuses, Concentrations, and Graduate Certificates tabs are independent therefore, scrolling the Awarded column will not likewise scroll the Enrollments column, and vice versa.

Exporting

To export the data from any report, please hover the cursor over the table and a menu bar will appear at the top right corner of the table. By clicking on the three dots (in the red circle below), a menu will appear. Click “Export data” (highlighted below in yellow) to get the data currently displayed in the table exported as a spreadsheet. Do NOT use the “Export” button at the top left of the dashboard as that does not function. Note: when exporting data, the color coding does not show through, but there is a column that displays the programs that are currently below either threshold.

Empty Cells

If there are any empty cells (see red boxes in image below) within any of the data cells, that indicates there were no students enrolled or credentials awarded for that semester or academic year.
