Add a Page
Adding new pages within a section of your website and semantically naming them.
Adding a Page
New pages are added one at a time from the Section Folder. This ensures your new page will automatically come with the appropriate section template.
Adding a new page is a simple process:
Use Sitecore’s navigation ribbon to navigate to the section folder where you want to your new page to live under.
In the Metrics area of the section folder, find and click on the large button labeled New Page.
A new modal window will appear titled Insert page. It has two critical fields for you to fill out for your new page:
Item Name (URL) - The unique URL for your new page.
Display Name - The name that will be displayed at the top of your new page.
Click the Insert button.
Your new page will be created for you and you will automatically be taken to it where you can add content.
Creating a Good URL
The URL is your webpage's address. You may notice Sitecore refer to a page’s URL as the Item Name but it is the same thing. Like numbers on houses and mailboxes, this unique identifier points visitors directly to your page. A good URL should be legible and give a solid hint to the webpage's content to tell visitors that they are in the right place.
Best Practices for Creating a Good URL
Do
Keep the URL as short as possible. 1-3 words is preferred
Only use lowercase letters
Separate multiple word URLs with hyphens
Describe the webpage’s content
Do Not
Do not include “stop words” (and, the, is, etc.)
Do not use uppercase letters
Do not separate words with spaces or underscores (ie: about_us)
Do not use the page’s URL to differentiate sections of a website (ie: undergrad-about-us). Instead, let their section do that work (ie: undergrad/about-us)
