You are receiving this email because you have indicated you are taking NUR 4828C this semester in the RN-BS program, and that you are an employee at Tampa General Hospital. The Clinical Education Specialist at TGH, Terri Ford, has asked that I let you know about the procedures needed for you to complete your service learning hours on site. Step 1: Student BadgesAll TGH employees doing clinical hours in the hospital must obtain and wear a student badge during those hours. Once requested, the badge will take about 2-3 days for processing, and can be picked up at HR on the 2nd Floor. In order to obtain a student badge, I must register you with ISIM, and will need each of you to email me with the following information:
**If you have a student badge that has expired, please provide the number of your student badge instead** Step 2: Finding a PreceptorTampa General Hospital requires students to secure their own preceptor, this means the facility does not provide their preceptor. If you need assistance in choosing a preceptor, you can contact Terri Ford. Her email is tlford@tgh.org and her number is 813-844-8533. The preceptor must fit the following below guidelines:
Service Learning hours are generally 10 hours for the semester. They are observational in nature and you will not have patient contact. You will need to follow a leader with BSN or higher in a leadership role. It cannot be your immediate supervisor and generally advised to go outside your floor. If you do not know other floors, I’d suggest asking your manager if she has any suggestions. Once you have your preceptor’s name and contact information, you must provide that information to me. You will also need to clear your preceptor with your education coordinator, please see previous emails from me for that person’s name and email. Step 3: Additional Requirements
Professional/ business casual with a lab coat is the preferred attire while completing student hours. TGH scrubs should not be worn during this time. |
