Current Student Scholarships & Awards

 Arun Kulkarni Award

One or more Arun Kulkarni Awards are made each year to support the travel expenses of a graduate student in the department of EOH to attend a conference, in order to present on research progress and results from their EOH degree program. Applications are announced to the student body by email in the spring and an application form is required.

 Carl A. Gelin Endowed Fellowship

This annual scholarship based on academic achievement is open to students of the Department of Health Policy and Management. Nominations will be made by the Department of HPM.

 FEHA Scholarships

Florida Environmental Health Association accepts applications for FEHA Scholarships of $500 minimum from students whose course of study must be in pursuit of a scientific discipline that relates to a career in environmental health and/or public health. For current information go to http://www.feha.org.

 FPHA Scholarships

Florida Public Health Association accepts applications/nominations for FPHA Scholarships $500 for MPH or MSPH candidates and $300 for other health fields. Letters should include: present position, future goals and ambitions, and be FPHA members. For more information go to www.fpha.org.

 Graduate Assistantships

Assists a faculty member with a graduate level class.Typically includes a 9(fall/spring) or 6 (summer)-hour in-state tuition waiver, 10-20 hours per week. Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better in their upper division coursework, must be degree-seeking and enrolled full time.  Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA)

Initially do not typically include a tuition waiver, 10-20 hours per week. Applicants should have an understanding of the scientific principles related to faculty’s research projects; prior research experience is an advantage. Contact your department's support staff directly to inquire about openings.

 International Academic Development Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to assist degree seeking College of Public Health students who plan to travel abroad with a clear purpose to increase: (1) Training in specific methodologies to improve professional and academic development, (2) Improving proficiencies and skills in an academic discipline as endorsed by a faculty advisor, or (3) Increasing cross-cultural competencies which apply to a specific aspect of the students’ academic program. This will be awarded on a competitive basis and will range from $500-$2000. This application must be submitted at the start of the academic semester for which they are seeking scholarship funds.  International Field Experience Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to assist degree seeking College of Public Health students who plan to do an International Field Experience. This will be awarded on a competitive basis and to be used to help defray the airfare and insurance costs associated with the IFE. This application must be submitted prior to leaving for the Field Experience in order to take effect. This program is administered through the College of Public Health Office of International Programs.

 International Research Scholarship (For Students Conducting Research Abroad)

 This scholarship is intended to assist degree seeking College of Public Health students who plan to do international research, international conferences and global enrichment overseas. This will be awarded on a competitive basis and will range from $500-$2000. This application must be submitted at the start of the academic semester for which they are seeking scholarship funds.  International Student Book Scholarship

The College of Public Health International Student Book Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to qualified international students as they pursue their graduate education at USF. Awards are for $250 per semester, and students can receive the scholarship each semester in which they meet the eligibility requirements.

Per Florida Residency Exception guideline 1009.21(10)(e), Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) students who meet the eligibility requirements and receive the COPH International Student Book Scholarship will be reclassified automatically as instate for the purpose of charging tuition. For more information on qualifying scholarships for LAC Students to Obtain Florida Residency, please see the following link: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Finaid2/portal.old/lac.html. Only LAC students will qualify for reclassification.

To be eligible for the COPH International Book Scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be an admitted COPH Graduate Student
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the term that the scholarship is requested
  • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours in the term that the scholarship is requested.
 Lee Leavengood Senior Program Endowed Scholarship

This annual scholarship is given to one or two students who have an interest in the field of aging. The amount of this scholarship varies annually. Applications are announced to the student body by email in the spring and an application form with essay is required.

 Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology Traineeships

This traineeship is intended for doctoral students who are planning a career in MCH Epidemiology, with a focus on addressing health disparities in maternal and child health. The traineeship will provide funding for students who otherwise may not be able to take the courses needed in MCH epidemiology due to financial constraints. Full-time students are provided stipend and tuition each year. Selection is made by faculty and based on academic qualifications. For details, contact Lianne Estefan at lestefan@health.usf.edu.

 Maternal and Child Health Leadership Training Program

Each year, a small group of Maternal and Child Health Master’s and Doctoral students will be selected as MCH Trainees. Trainees will complete a special enhanced curriculum in addition to regular coursework; will have special training opportunities in cultural competence, family-centered care, and interdisciplinary practice; and will be working closely with MCH faculty mentors, community agencies, and advisors throughout the traineeship. Students selected as trainees will receive full-time tuition waivers for 3 semesters, a stipend, travel support to conferences, and individualized mentoring.  NIOSH Traineeships

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health offers traineeships to accepted students in the Industrial Hygiene/Safety Management program. The traineeship award includes a tuition waiver for nine credits per semester as well as a stipend. For details, contact the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at (813) 974-3144.

 Rita G. Bruce Scholarship

The Rita G. Bruce Scholarship is awarded to a full-time College of Public Health student with outstanding academic achievement who has displayed commitment to the field of public health through involvement in community outreach, research, and/or educational programs, and demonstrated leadership within the University of South Florida College Of Public Health. Applications are announced to the student body by email in the spring and an application form with essay is required.

 Samuel P. Bell III Scholarship

Based on academic and professional achievement, annual scholarships are awarded to two PhD students and one student at the Masters level, to assist in the attainment of academic goals, Applications are announced to the student body by email in the spring and an application form with essay is required.
