Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

CAEP Scope of Accreditation

The scope of CAEP’s work is the accreditation of educator preparation providers having programs leading to certification/licensure, bachelor’s, master’s, post-baccalaureate, and doctoral degrees in the United States and internationally.

Simply put, accreditation is quality assurance through external peer review. When an institution or specialized program is accredited, it has demonstrated that it meets standards set by organizations representing the academic community, professionals, and other stakeholders. To maintain accreditation the institution or program must undergo a similar review on a regular basis. Typically reviews are conducted every 7 to 10 years.

The Accreditation Cycle involves the educator preparation providers in continuous improvement and demonstration that they meet the high standards of quality required to improve P-12 student learning.

Program and State Review Process

All providers seeking CAEP accreditation must complete program review, which states use to examine the content and efficacy of preparation in the different preparation fields for teachers, school leaders, school psychologists, reading specialists, librarians, and other school professionals. States define the program review option available to providers as part of the CAEP partnership agreement.

2020 - April Note from Requestor Rebecca Ogletree :

We are approved through 2021. The annual report is simply an update. I suppose, if there were major concerns, we would hear something, but usually we don’t.

There has only been one peer review to give suggestions for improving the report a few years ago.

At this time, I’m working on the updates to our assessment page using the data from the CAEP report and data from the state licensing reports.

The accreditation designations stay through 2021.
