Overview

This article will help guide you through locating your computer name. This is important for remote access use.

Windows 

For Windows 7

  1.  Select Start.
  2. Right-click on Computer and select Properties.
  3. Your computer name is listed under Computer name, Domain, and Work Group settings.Hit the Windows key on your keyboard 
  4. Type computer name in the search field that comes up
  5. Hit the Enter button on your keyboard
  6. Click See the name of this computer.
    The name is displayed in the Full Computer Name field

For Windows 8/8.1/10

  1.  Hit the Windows key on your keyboard 
  2. Type computer
  3. Right-click the Start button.Click System.on This PC 
  4. Select Properties
    The computer name is listed under displayed in the PC/Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings field.


Note

If you are NOT able to log into the computer you can still check the computer name. From the login screen, opt to login as Other User. Inputting ".\" in the User Name field will display the name of the computer directly below the Password field.  

Mac

  1.  Select System Preferences
  2. Click on the Sharing pane.
  3. Your computer name is listed at the top of the new window.
