COHORTS at USF

A cohort is a specific group of students established for tracking and reporting. USF currently utilizes the baseline Banner cohort functionality for this purpose.

Some of the student populations that USF tracks currently, or will track in the future, include:

  1. FTIC

  2. Transfer Students

  3.  FUSE
    About FUSE

The FUSE program of the University of South Florida System is designed to promote timely degree completion for students transferring from the local Florida College System Institutions to USF System institutions to earn their Bachelor's degree. Students admitted to the program will be guaranteed admission to a USF System institution provided that they earn their Associates of Arts degree in 3 years, with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Students seeking admission into limited or restrictive access majors will have to meet additional specific requirements such as GPA or test scores.

    Institution Participation
    o Hillsborough Community College
    o Polk State College
    o St. Petersburg College
    o Pasco Hernando State College
    o State College of Florida
    o College of Central Florida
    o South Florida State College
    o Santa Fe College

Students who enter the FUSE program will be expected to:

    • Have intention of transferring to a USF System institution.
    • Complete an Associates of Arts degree within 3 years and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. By meeting these requirements, students will be guaranteed admission to the USF System.

ARCHIVUM

USF has recently created a Case Management System (ARCHIVUM) to assist advisors in working with student populations to promote persistence and student success.  At time of implementation, USF had been identifying and maintaining cohort populations externally to the Student Information System (SIS) – Banner.  As an initial step, a student population was extracted from the external system (SIDS Database) and a cohort was defined in Banner and associated to students.  This was prior to all criteria being ironed out and as a result, some of the assignments are incorrect.  This was a stopgap measure due to time limitations and the purpose of this project is to redefine student cohorts in Banner and establish business process for maintenance.  The cohorts will be used, not only for Case Management, but also for reporting purposes.
