Medical Students as Human Subjects in Research

From time to time, medical students may be asked to participate as human subjects in research. Investigators must obtain prior written approval from the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in order to allow students to participate as subjects. Likewise, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs may restrict the participation as experimental subjects if it is determined that this might compromise academic progress.

It is USF Policy that all human subject research conducted at the University, whether medical, behavioral, social or other, be governed by the University’s Institutional Assurance on file with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), as amended from time to time, and applicable federal regulations. A copy of the Assurance can be obtained from the Division of Research Grants (DRG).
