Graduation and Track Requirements

AY 26-27 Tracks

Core

SELECT

Regulations:

A minimum of 18 weeks of clinical electives as classified by type in the electives catalog (including track requirements)

No more than 12 weeks of a combination of externship, scholarly concentration or independent study. An exception to this policy can occur if students replace an Interview month with one of the above for an additional 4 weeks

No more than 24 weeks in any one department including track requirements

At least 20 weeks of courses must be taken on the students' home campus (the remainder can be at alternate campus or combined with externships as above)

2 or 4 week blocks of flexible time (MEL INT) as accommodated by longitudinal courses. (Optional) Typically used for USMLE Step 2 preparation, interviews, and/or remediation. See below for remediation/make-up policy.

With the exception of acting internships, externships, independent studies, and scholarly concentration electives, no course can be taken more than one time without special approval from the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum. Acting internships in the same specialty at different locations may be taken up to two times without prior approval.

Any exceptions to track and graduation requirements caused by extenuating circumstances or resulting from a mid-year change in track must be pre-approved by the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum.

Required Remediation/Make-Up

For various reasons students may be required to remediate or makeup course work during the senior elective year. These requirements will be met as specified by each department under the following guidelines:

All third year requirements must be completed prior to the start of fourth year course work. Any exceptions must be approved by the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum. Students may enroll in a fourth year course if their only deficiency is the retake of a third year clerkship examination. If approved, that student may be enrolled in a fourth year course while preparing for the examination at the conclusion of that rotation period.

Remediation time can only replace study or interview time (flexible time - MEL INT) and will not be counted as one of the nine (36 weeks) required elective periods. Any more time may result in delayed graduation. Fourth year courses may not be taken until after remedial/make-up requirements have been completed and all third year requirements have been met.
