Right Column Overview - v3
This documentation covers activating and deactivating a right column and the components available to use within it.
Activating the Right Column on a Page
Right columns are activated from the Experience Editor view in Edit mode.
Find the right column icon in the upper right corner, between the breadcrumbs and page content.
Click the right column icon and the page will reload with the right column added and an empty placeholder ready for components.
Adding Components Into the Right Column
Components are added to the right column in the same process as the main content area.
Click on the empty placeholder. A button labeled Add here will appear in the upper left corner of the placeholder. (figure 1)
Click the Add here button.
A window titled Select a Rendering will appear with a grid of components for you to select from. (figure 2)
Click on the component you want to add and then click the blue button in the lower right of the window titled Select.
Your web browser will automatically refresh the page and the new component rendering will be in the placeholder you selected.Click the green + Add Component button.
The component you selected has now been added and automatically saved to the page.
Deleting Components from the Right Column
Components are deleted to the right column in the same process as the main content area.
Click on the Control Bar of an existing component and Sitecore will pop up a small, rectangular window with the component’s name and control buttons.
Click the Delete button. (red X icon)
The component will disappear from the page.
Save the page to make the deletion permanent.
Deactivating the Right Column on a Page
Right columns are deactivated from the Experience Editor view in Edit mode.
Find the right column icon in the upper right corner, between the breadcrumbs and page content. This button is displayed in red with an arrow pointing to the left.
Click the right column icon and the page will reload with the right column now deactivated and the main content area spanning across the full page.
Tip: Clicking the Remove RCS button will not remove the components or their content. This can be helpful for comparing a before and after preview, when determining the best layout for your page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can a right column be added?
Right columns can only be added to pages without content in the left column. If the page already has left column content, such as vertical navigation, this option is unavailable.
Can components be moved between the right column and the main content area?
No. Right column components are confined to their unique placeholder and cannot be moved to the main content area, or vice versa.
Can I repeat the same right column content across multiple pages?
