Data Importer Tutorial

Steps to upload data via the Data Importer portal

1. Open up the Data Importer portal by using the url http://biaweb.forest.usf.edu/BIADataLoad

2. Click on the 'Start Submission' Button or 'Log in' link on top of the screen.  This will bring you to the Microsoft Azure SSO log-in screen where you will log into your USF account.

3. After logging in, the 'File selection' screen will be displayed. Only files to which the user has been granted access will be displayed.

4. Click on on the 'Download Template' link next to the file type that you are interested in uploading . This will bring up the Excel template that can be saved to any folder.

5. The Excel file has 2 sheets. Sheet 1 'Data Upload Template' contains sample data.  This Sheet 2 'Data Definitions' contains the meta data details and how data should be input.

6. Remove the sample data and add your data to the Sheet 1.  The first sheet is the only sheet that will be uploaded.   Save your file, then click on the "Upload File' button on the 'File Selection' screen. This will take you to the upload screen.

7. Drag and drop your excel file into the upload window or use the browse feature to select your file and click on the 'Validate File' button

8. If there are no errors in the file, the Data Validation screen will be display the 'No errors were found during validation' message.

If there are any warnings, the warnings will be displayed. However this will not prevent you from uploading the file and you can proceed to the next step . If there are any errors, follow this error section to resolve it as you will not be able to proceed to step 9 i.e Finalize Import step.

9. Click on the 'Finalize Import' button to complete the upload process. The "Import Completed' message will be displayed to indicate that your file was uploaded successfully.

10. Click on the 'Return' button to go back to the 'File Selection' home screen.

You have successfully completed the upload process.

Note: If there are any errors in the file validation(step 6), the Data Validation screen will display the Error count and clicking on it will show the error details,. The error message can be saved using the 'Save Log' link.  Clicking on the 'Save Log' will download the errors into a text file to be worked on later or shared with someone who is actually putting together the excel file.  Once the corrected file is ready, click on 'Back' to re try the file upload on step 7. or log back later to the portal to start the process again at step 1
