Global Department Access for Systems
There are two ways to access the Global Department information:
Users creating Power BI reports, apps and dashboards can access the information via the Power BI Dataflow. If data access is needed for an application, a database read-only account can be provided to developers for use by that application.
Power BI user access
The access to this table will be through the Power BI service. The user will need to be granted access to the workspace where the dataflow resides.
For requesting this type of access, submit a ticket to it-analytics@usf.edu with the following information included:
Workspace: IT Analytics Global Department Dataflows
Dataflow: Global Department
Once access is provided, the user can then select the dataflow as a data source in the PBI Desktop:
Application access
The access to this table will be through SQL Authentication where a user, database name and table name will be provided to developers.
For requesting this type of access, submit a ticket to it-analytics@usf.edu with the following information included:
Port: 1433
Database: biadw
Schema: dim
Table: GlobalDepartment
Optional: Account Name you prefer

GlobalCollegeUnitName | Identifies the College/Unit Name that a global department rolls up to. | |
GlobalCollegeUnitID | Identifies the College/Unit ID that a global department rolls up to. COM was changed to MCOM. | |
GlobalDeptName | Identifies the global department name which generally includes the College/Unit abbreviation at the beginning. | |
GlobalDeptNameShort | Identifies shortened name for global department which generally includes the College/Unit abbreviation at the beginning and a shortened version of the global department name. | |
GlobalDeptNameRpt | Identifies the global department name without a College/Unit abbreviation in proper case. Useful for visualizations when it only displays one College/Unit. | |
GlobalDeptCode | Identifies the Global Department Code which is a shortened version of the global department name in uppercase. | |
PrimaryCIPCode | Displays the primary CIP code to identify what is primarily taught in this global department. | |
GlobalDeptID | Identifies the global department ID. | |
IsAcademic | Identifies if a global department is considered academic. | |
IsAcademicCollege | Identifies if a college/unit is academic. | |
SourceSystem | Identifies the source system that a department belongs to. Source systems include: CODA (previously USFPG) FAIR (previously SAMAS) FAST (previously USF) GEMS HealthBanner (previously MDBANNER) OASIS OracleHCM (currently in UAT) | |
SourceSystemDeptID | Identifies the DeptID from the source system that is mapped to this global dept. | |
SourceSystemDeptName | Identifies the DeptName from the source system that is mapped to this global dept. |
Mapping DWPROD global department views and SID global department table to the new Azure dim.GlobalDepartment table
