Microsoft Edge Browser in Internet Explorer Compatibility Mode (for Data & Analytics)

Overview

Google Chrome is the officially supported browser version for Data & Analytics. However, since the deprecated Internet Explorer browser is completely compatible with our current product version we believe that using Microsoft Edge in Internet Explorer compatibility mode should be a safe option as well. This is the reason why we suggested using Microsoft Edge in Internet Explorer compatibility mode to be used between 02/09/2023 and 03/09/2023 – when Chromium-based web browsers (i.e. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge in ‘normal mode’) enlisted code which happened to prevent data from being pulled ‘live’ within reports in the Data and Analytics system.

To get the Microsoft Edge browser to work in Internet Explorer compatibility mode takes both a one-time effort and an ‘extra step’ each time you log into Data & Analytics.

Enabling Internet Explorer Compatibility Mode (One-Time Change)

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser on Windows 10.

  2. Click the 3-dots ellipsis ( ) in the upper-right corner and select Settings.

  3. From the Settings window, select Default Browser on the left panel.

  4. In the Default Browser panel on the right under Internet Explorer Compatibility, locate the Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) setting. Change the drop-down menu to Allow. See Figure 2.

  5. Reload the Microsoft Edge browser for the setting change to take effect.

Note that each time you log into USF Data & Analytics you still need to take action to refresh the page in Internet Explorer compatibility mode. Instructions are posted in the Logging Into Data & Analytics site.

Required Effort for Each Login

  1. After being presented with the BI launch pad login window via the Microsoft Edge browser you must click the 3-dot ellipsis ( ... ) in the upper-right and choose Reload in Internet Explorer Mode.

  2. You may be presented with a pop-up window titled This page is open in Internet Explorer mode. See Figure 1. We suggest clicking Done. Note that if you instead choose to toggle the "Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time" option then be aware that after one month that setting will automatically become disabled.

  3. In the User Name: field of the BI launch pad logon screen enter your lowercase NetID (ex. rockythebull).

  4. In the Password: field enter the password corresponding to your NetID.

  5. Ensure the Authentication: field is still set to Windows AD.
