Global Departments

Global Departments exist to represent the real-life organization of USF colleges, units, and departments. A flexible system is important because our organizational structure changes as the needs of the USF Community change. Each of the enterprise source systems has their own method of college, unit, and department structure that may not be flexible. Global Departments allows us to map and remap those source system departments to a global department.

Global Departments can be used within reports for quick filtering, without having to select individual source system departments. They also allow you to pull data from multiple source systems and filter by a single college, unit, or department field.

Everyone with a NetID has at least one associated Global Department. This makes Global Departments ideal for security when users can be students, faculty, employees, or guests.

When I choose a Global Department, which source system departments does that represent? Check out the Global Department Crosswalk report. Access must be requested the first time.

I want to use Global Departments in my system. How do I get access? There are two ways to access Global Departments:

  1. Contact Enterprise Application Integrations to use the Global Department API

  2. Request access as described in Global Department Access for Systems
