Power BI Pro License Procurement and Setup
Acquiring Licenses
Active USF Faculty and Staff with an A5F license already receive full access to Power BI Pro. This includes access to Power BI online.
If a department needs a student to have a Power BI Pro license, they would need to complete a purchase of this license by sending an email to the IT Contracts team at MVLS@usf.edu. Additional information can be found here: Power Platform/Dynamics (sharepoint.com)
Setting Up Development/Deployment Workspaces
Once users in an area have been setup with licenses within O365, a team workspace needs to be created where all the reports developed by the area/developers can deploy and share their reports. This team workspace is created in Power BI Service and can be accomplished by submitting a ticket to Jira by emailing help@usf.edu. You can request for a specific workspace name which will be used in accordance with existing naming conventions to create the workspace. As a part of this workspace creation, one or more users of the workspace will be set up as “administrators” of the workspace. This role will let these specific users add more users to the workspace or remove them as needed.
Adding Workspaces to Premium Capacity
Workspaces need to be added topremium capacity only if they are going to be shared with groups external to USF or if using premium features such as Power BI Report Builder for paginated reports. For any groups that want to share the developed reports on Power BI to users who do not also have a Power BI Pro license (groups external to USF), it is necessary to add the workspaces hosting those reports into the ‘Premium Capacity’ license. Premium capacity can be explored for purchase for your workspace(s) by submitting a ticket to Jira by emailing help@usf.edu.
