Unpublish & Delete a Page

Unpublish & Delete

Safely remove pages from your website with this tool.

Why do I have to both unpublish and delete?

Before a page can be deleted from the CMS, it must first be unpublished. Otherwise, the page you remove will be “orphaned” on the live website. This is why we combined both of these steps into one handy tool.

Sitecore will attempt to automatically remove all links to a page when it is unpublished. However, it's always important to look through your site for any manually created links the CMS is not tracking and can not see.

Unpublish and Delete a Page

Content is deleted one content item at a time.

fig. A
  1. Navigate to the page that you want to remove.

  2. At the top of the page, click the Home tab to expand the ribbon controls. (fig. A)

  3. In the ribbon, find and click the button titled Unpublish & Delete.

  4. A message will pop up asking for your confirmation and display the page’s name. (fig. B)

  5. If you don’t want to continue, click the gray Cancel button in the lower right and nothing will be unpublished or deleted.

  6. To confirm the unpublish and deletion, click the blue OK button in the lower right.

  7. A new message will pop up informing you that Sitecore will now compile a list of links to this page. (fig. C) It is important that you do not refresh or close the window while it does this.

  8. After Sitecore is finished, a new window will pop up with a list of links to this page. Click the blue Continue button in the lower right.

  9. You will be redirected to the section folder for the site and the page will have been unpublished and deleted.

If you deleted the page by mistake, it can be recovered from the Sitecore Recycle Bin.
